Challenge of the week: Make pancakes

Since we have so much time these days I thought it would be good if we could spend some of that time bonding with our family members and learning to do things that we wouldn't learn to do in a classroom.

This week I'd like for you and your parents (or another relative) to try making pancakes! Here is a kid-friendly recipe for pancakes

Try it yourself and see if you can make it. I already tried this weekend and here's the result.

Can you make one that looks more delicious than mine? Try it and send photos to me. I'll post them here!

An interview with the president of the USA

Today, I asked my dad to tell me a nice story about his life. My father told me that he had done an interview with George Bush, the former president of the United States of America. He told me he had done the interview in the year 200, and that the interview had taken place in the White House main hall. My father told me that this was a very special day for him and he would never forget it.

Science project: Simple Machines: Week of 23/3/20

Hello class,

We'll be doing a science project today. We'll be making a simple machine called a pulley. We'll use objects you probably have around the house. I recommend you work on it today but if you don't have the right objects, then try to finish it over the weekend.

Here's what you'll need:

* Scissors
* Tape
* The carton in the middle of toilet paper or paper towels.
* A large book or small box.
* A pen/pencil.

Here are all my supplies.

First you take your toilet paper cartons. On the edge cut a small square big enough for your pencil to go in.

Then hold it next to the other carton. Use your pen to mark how far down the cut you made is. Then cut another small square into the other carton. This way both of your cuts are the same size.

Then put one carton to the back of the other and make another small mark so you know how far to cut and then cut another small square.

Do the same to the other carton. Now you should be able to set your pencil in the cartons. Place a roll of tape (or some other circular object around the pen/pencil and then place it in the middle of the the two cartons, like this.

Now we need to secure the bottom. Take pieces of tape and tape the bottom of the two cartons to something strong, like a heavy book or a box. I used a puzzle box.

Now take your string and wrap it around some small object to lift up. I chose a candle.

Place the object on the ground and the string around the circular object between the two cartons.

Now all you have to do is pull the string down on one side, and watch the object rise on the other!

Try it yourself and take some pictures or short videos. What is the heaviest object you can lift with your pulley? Send them to me and I'll put them on this blog!

Challenge of the week: Origami

Hello everyone!

Every week we're having lessons at home, I'll be issuing 'challenges.' These challenges are just extra activities you can do in your free time. This week we'll be making origami animals. All you need is some paper. Make as many animals as you like and color them however you like. Then take a photo and send it to me. I'll put your photos on this blog so other students can see it and give you a classdojo point!

First, you need to know how to make a perfect square from your paper, because all the other videos start with a square paper. Here is how to do that.

Now that you have your square. Here is how to make a dog.

Here's how to make a fox.

Here's how to make a cat.

And you can find even more on youtube if you want. Try your best! take some pictures and send them to me.

Have fun!

Welcome to mr. Jordan's Classroom

Hello everyone,

This is mr. Jordan. While we're all out on break, I thought it'd be fun to make a virtual classroom in the form of this blog.

On this blog we can post some projects we work on, works of art we create, or essays we write. There is an option to leave comments, so if you see one of your classmates has made something you like, then you should tell them!

I will never post anything without the permission of students or their parents. Keep visiting here for new updates!
